Don’t expect a percentage off every cart. Sam’s Club’s military offer is a new membership paired with Sam’s Cash, so the real question is whether that reward, the fee and your normal shopping add up to a saving.

The official offer: $40 or $70 in Sam’s Cash

Sam’s Club’s military membership help page calls this an ongoing offer for qualified military joining online as new members. Check current terms before joining:

MembershipPublished first-year chargeMilitary new-member Sam’s CashNominal fee minus rewards*
Club$60$40$20
Plus$120$70$50

*That last column is not an advertised discounted checkout price. You pay the full membership charge, and the offer adds Sam’s Cash under its terms. Calling it a “$20 membership” skips that step.

The same page says that if you join through its link, you’ll get $10 in Sam’s Cash when you renew, in club or online. It doesn’t spell out timing or expiration, so check current terms at renewal and count that $10 only if you actually plan to renew.

These figures come from Sam’s Club’s own help page, checked October 23, 2026, not a coupon blog. Its membership comparison also lists Club at $60 a year and Plus at $120.

Who qualifies and what proof is accepted

The military membership offer covers active military personnel, retired military and veterans, civilian military employees, and military spouses. Other retailers’ military programs use different lists, so go by Sam’s Club’s own terms.

For online offers, verification runs through ID.me. The help page lists accepted proof of service:

  • Active or retired military ID issued by the Department of Defense
  • A copy of a DD-214 with valid photo ID
  • Veterans Identification Card (VIC)
  • A military service organization membership card (such as American Legion, VFW or DAV) with valid photo ID
  • Common Access Card (CAC)
  • VA medical benefits card

Never email a DD-214 or a photo of your ID to an independent deal site. Use the official Sam’s Club link and the verification provider’s secure workflow, and disclose only what is required. The fact that a document is listed as an acceptable type does not mean it should be posted in full to an unknown website.

This is a new-member offer. If you already pay annual dues, don’t assume you can rejoin to collect it. The help page links to a new-membership offers page for other deals; current members should ask Member Services what applies to them.

Exactly how to sign up

  1. Start with the official Sam’s Club military discount page.
  2. Choose the military Club or Plus verification-and-join link.
  3. Complete the ID.me eligibility check in its official flow.
  4. Return to the retailer’s enrollment flow and make sure the qualifying promotion is still attached.
  5. Review the annual charge and Sam’s Cash offer before paying.
  6. Complete membership enrollment and save the offer confirmation.
  7. Watch the membership account for the reward and keep the help-page terms if a credit is missing.

Keep a short record: the date you joined, which tier, the fee charged and when the Sam’s Cash appeared. That’s what you’ll need if a credit goes missing.

Check whether Auto Renew is on. A first-year reward doesn’t make next year’s fee cheaper. If you might not renew, set a reminder a few weeks ahead and judge the membership at the regular price.

Club or Plus? Here is the decision that matters

For new military members, Plus costs $60 more up front than Club and offers $30 more Sam’s Cash under the current promotion. If both rewards are usable at full face value, Plus has a $30 greater net first-year cost before considering its extra features.

Beginning October 20, 2026, Sam’s Club says Plus includes Walmart+ Annual at no extra cost for the eligible primary Plus member. Its FAQ says you must link your Sam’s Club and Walmart+ accounts to use the benefits, and that the accounts, orders and rewards stay separate. Older comparison articles won’t mention this.

Here are the important Plus distinctions, according to Sam’s Club:

BenefitClubPlus
Shop at member prices and use Scan & GoYesYes
Curbside pickupFree for eligible orders over $50Free, no order minimum
Eligible shipping and Delivery from ClubNormal Club terms/feesFree on eligible orders of $50+
Sam’s Cash on qualifying in-club purchasesNo 2% benefit2%, up to $750 per 12-month membership
Walmart+ Annual includedNoYes, for the eligible primary member

Sam’s Club’s Plus FAQ says Plus members earn 2% Sam’s Cash on qualifying pre-tax, in-club purchases, with a maximum of $750 per 12-month membership, and restrictions apply. Don’t assume every online dollar earns it.

A Plus break-even shortcut

Since the military promotion makes the first-year effective reward difference $30, an illustrative $1,500 of qualifying purchases × 2% = $30 can cover that difference—assuming you actually earn and redeem the reward, with no other exclusions. Delivery, shipping and Walmart+ only add value if your household would otherwise pay for something similar.

Without the one-time new-member military reward, the regular annual price difference is $60. At 2% on qualifying spending alone, that needs $3,000 of eligible purchases to offset. No one should justify a recurring Plus membership with a first-year promotion that won’t repeat.

To decide for your household, estimate a year of eligible in-club spending from recent receipts, count how often you’d really use delivery or shipping, and check whether you’d otherwise pay for Walmart+. If those don’t clear the $60 gap, Club is the better fit.

The grocery math nobody should skip

Bulk isn’t automatically cheaper. Compare unit prices against what your household will actually use:

ItemClub packageOrdinary-store alternativeDecide by
Rice____ lb for $________ lb for $____Cost per pound
Coffee____ oz for $________ oz for $____Cost per ounce
Paper towels____ sheets for $________ sheets for $____Cost per 100 sheets
Fresh produce____ lb for $________ lb for $____Cost used before spoilage

If a 10-pound package costs $18, that’s $1.80/lb. A five-pound store package at $10 is $2/lb. The bulk package saves $0.20/lb only if all of it gets used. Wasting two pounds changes the effective cost of the eight pounds consumed to $2.25/lb, which is worse than the smaller package.

Don’t count fuel savings, cashback or “regular price” comparisons unless you can match the same item and quantity. A membership pays off through real replaced purchases, not imagined cart totals.

First-visit checklist

  • ☐ Digital membership works at the door and register.
  • ☐ The military Sam’s Cash offer shows in the account.
  • ☐ The introductory reward’s spending/redemption conditions are understood.
  • ☐ Unit prices beat the stores you already use, including fees.
  • ☐ Plus-only Walmart+ linking is complete, if selected.
  • ☐ Curbside and shipping minimums are understood.
  • ☐ Auto Renew date is saved.

If two shopping trips turn up no real savings on things your family uses, reconsider before renewal. Membership clubs are tools, not obligations.

FAQ

Does Sam’s Club offer a veteran discount in 2026?

Its help page, checked October 23, 2026, lists $40 in Sam’s Cash with a new $60 Club membership or $70 with a new $120 Plus membership for qualified military joining online. Check current terms.

Is the veteran membership $20?

No, the advertised Club fee is $60. Subtracting a redeemed $40 reward gives a nominal $20 net cost, but it isn’t a $20 checkout price.

Can military spouses qualify?

The official offer lists military spouses among eligible groups, subject to verification.

Can existing Sam’s Club members claim the new-member veteran offer?

The promotion is described for new members. Existing members should ask Member Services what offers apply; don’t assume eligibility.

Does Sam’s Club Plus include Walmart+?

Sam’s Club says yes, beginning October 20, 2026, for the eligible primary Plus member, who must link the two accounts.
