About Us
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I spend a lot of time researching how to make life better for me and my family. My kids are getting older and getting ready to leave the house, so I figured I would write down certain things (life hacks, really) to help them in life. I also get asked a lot of the same questions by friends and family, and I got tired of repeating the same explanation over and over. So I started writing these ideas down in one place, with a link I can send people.
What plain.tips is
plain.tips is a small site written by an American Dad. It covers everyday money and life questions: lowering phone, internet and cable bills, grocery apps that actually save money, where to buy good meat, credit cards, homeschooling, and discounts people often miss. It’s for regular households that want a straight answer without wading through fluff. Every post is written in plain language, and most are built as step-by-step guides you can follow in one sitting.
How tips are checked
I’m not a lab and I don’t pretend to be one. What I do is go to the source. Before a post goes up, I check the details against the company’s own pages (plan terms, help articles, shipping and pricing pages) and, where it applies, government sites such as the FCC or a state education department. Where I’ve used a product or service myself, I say so and tell you what I found. Each post lists its sources with the date they were checked, and shows the date it was last updated. Prices, rules and offers change, so when something changes I update the post and the date. Posts about money are general information, not professional advice.
Ads and affiliate links
To help cover the cost of running the site, plain.tips may show ads, including ads served by Google. Some links may also earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Posts with those links say so. Ads and commissions don’t decide what I recommend. If something isn’t worth your money, I’ll say that too.
Corrections
If you spot something wrong or out of date, please let me know through the Contact form. Tell me which post and what needs fixing. I’ll check it and correct the post.
Anyways, if you have stumbled onto this website, I hope you find it helpful and valuable as you go through life.
