  • Where to Buy Quality Meat

I used to buy my meat from places like Sam’s Club, Costco, ButcherBox, and Publix to get a decent price. I even chose organic options, and for beef, I looked for labels like “grass-fed.” But over time, I grew frustrated. Much of the meat was imported from foreign countries or simply wasn’t the quality I expected. Other countries don’t always follow the same standards we do, and it bothered me knowing my money was going overseas or to multinational corporations instead of supporting an American small business. That’s what pushed me to start searching for truly high-quality meat.

Before we even begin, get a deep freezer or have PLENTY of freezer space. Otherwise, you will be stuck buying locally at the grocery store where you sacrifice both quality and price.

First, let us look at ground beef. I buy American-made, 90/10, grass fed, organic ground beef. Once I have those met, I go for price. I looked at Force of Nature, Wild Fork and others. I ended up going with Wild Fork because it was local delivery and much cheaper than buying from an online company.

It was very hard for me to find a quality ribeye steak – I wanted organic, grass fed and made in America. Most of the ones that had everything I wanted are imports from Australia. I finally found Starwalker Organic Farms and was able to purchase my steaks from there. It is a little on the pricey side, but you are going to pay even more when you eat out for a much more inferior steak.

Next, I wanted some healthier ground meat like Bison and Elk. For those, I bought Force of Nature. Slightly more expensive, but I saved money on shipping and cost by buying it in bulk.

Then I looked at chicken. There were some very expensive options out there for quality chicken. I ended up going with the American-made, pasture raised, organic, and regenerative Seven Sons Farm. They had plenty in stock and weren’t nearly as expensive as some of the other ones.

For breakfast sausage patties, I go to Sprouts locally for frozen pasture raised pork sausage patties. I am on the hunt for an organic pasture raised version, have not been successful yet.

For grass-fed organic ribeye steaks, I order from Wild Fork. Made in America and tastes delicious.

Other options locally for these are Publix, Sprouts, Whole Foods and Trader Joes. But you have to really be careful to make sure they have everything you want. Every corner they cut is a level down in taste, quality and health.
